Labour Party president Andrew Little has been confirmed as his party's candidate for New Plymouth in next year's general election.
Mr Little, who is also national secretary of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union, was the only nominee for the seat.
A formal confirmation meeting was held in New Plymouth last night and Mr Little was officially selected, Labour secretary Chris Flatt told NZPA.
Mr Little was now expected to stand down from his union and presidency roles before the election.
He was born and raised in Taranaki but hasn't lived there since the 1980s.
The New Plymouth seat was narrowly won at the last election by National's Jonathan Young.
