Cow 569, the heroine of a Manawatu herd, has given birth to a strapping hereford-cross bull calf.
Cow 569 gave her owner, Kim Riley, a lifesaving lift to dry land when the flooding Manawatu River swept away a herd of 350 cows near Woodville in February .
The Rileys were hoping for twin heifer calves but got a male. "We'll grow him to 10 to 12 weeks and see what happens. He is cute."
Cow 569 is to be the subject of a book written by Mrs Riley and illustrated by Deb Hinde, titled Cow Power. It is due for release in October.
