The weather may have put a damper on weekend fireworks, but a few youths still received a stern talking to from police.
Masterton police Sergeant Simon Irving said young men were driving around town on Saturday afternoon throwing lit fireworks from their car, as reported by three members of the public.
He understood they were students at Taratahi Training Farm and it had been left up to the school to take disciplinary action.
But that was the extent of fireworks-related incidents police dealt with during the weekend. "The weather seemed to put a bit of a damper on the weekend fireworks fun and games," Mr Irving said.
He expected people might be letting off fireworks this coming weekend instead, and said they should use common sense around safety. People could face a $200 fine for using fireworks inappropriately in a public place.
