KEY POINTS:
A liquor store in Tauranga was damaged in a arson attack early today.
The Fire Service was called to the Fraser St shops, in suburban Merivale, about 1.20am by a local man who noticed smoke.
Police said the fire had been lit outside the rear of the shops with exterior damage being caused to the Merivale Liquor Centre building.
They appealed to anyone who was in the area early today and saw any suspicious to contact them.
