A $1 million donation from the Lion Foundation means the South Auckland Health Foundation will get a new $7 million assessment and birthing unit at Middlemore Hospital. The unit, partly funded by the Government, is due to be ready in October.
More than 6500 births are likely at Middlemore this year.
