A linesman is in hospital after receiving an electric shock while working on a power pole.
The man, who works for Northland lines company North Power, was given emergency first aid by co-workers at the scene.
Spokeswoman Jodi Hayward said the man is in a serious but stable condition and is sedated.
He was replacing a power pole on a 400-volt line that had been damaged by a car accident in Whangarei.
She said all lines-workers are taught CPR and have a refresher course every six months.
Ms Hayward said the company had a serious incident earlier this year when a man received an electric shock in East Tamaki, Auckland. He survived the accident.
Northpower, the Department of Labour and the Ministry of Economic Development organisation -Energy Safety- are all investigating the accident.
