The AMG performance arm of luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz says its latest limited-edition model uses the world's first application of a new white exterior paint it calls "designo magno Kashmir".
The new paint gives the Mercedes-Benz SL63 a whiter-than-white finish that contrasts with the use of matt black carbon on the trailing edge of the bootlid, the diffuser insert in the lower back panel and the side air vents on the front apron.
It also contrasts with the mix of carbon fibre and brown leather in the interior, and the AMG black floormats. The tuning house is not saying how it developed the special paint, only that it and the car was produced in conjunction with Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen.
Only 200 of the special IWC models will be made, each one accompanied by a "Grosser Ingenieur" (Great Engineer) watch from IWC.
Apart from the colour and special effects, including two-tone AMG steering wheel, AMG door sills with white illuminated AMG lettering, and the IWC logo on the lid of the centre console, the rest is pretty much standard SL63 AMG fare.
The car is powered by a 6.3-litre V8 engine producing 386kW (525bhp) and 630Nm of torque and driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox. AMG claims a zero to 100km/h sprint time for the convertible of 4.6 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 300km/h. The steering wheel has a reduced diameter, a rim flattened at the bottom, and silver-finish aluminium gearshift paddles.
The steering wheel is part of the package, which also includes forged 19-inch AMG light alloy, double-spoke wheels with a titanium gray finish and polished surfaces. The 8.5-inch and 9.5-inch rims sport 255/35 R19 and 285/30 R19 format tyres, respectively.
The front axle is equipped with internally ventilated, perforated composite disc brakes (390mm x 36mm) that AMG says keeps braking distances to a minimum and ensures resistance to fading.
Handling is further enhanced by other technical features from the package, including a rear-axle, multi-disc limited-slip differential with a lock factor of 40 per cent, as well as an AMG chassis equipped with Active Body Control.
Mercedes-AMG has been collaborating with IWC Schaffhausen since 2004, when the two companies presented their first jointly designed vehicle, the CLS 55 AMG "IWC Engineer."
Deliveries of the special edition model will begin in November.
