One minor software glitch brought traffic to a standstill on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula yesterday.
Traffic on the only road out of the peninsula started to back up from 6am and took about four hours to clear.
A Rodney District Council spokesman said a minor fault caused the lights on the corner of Red Beach and Whangaparaoa Rds to short-phase, allowing only three cars to go through at a time.
The problem has been put right, although roading staff were to be on standby at the site from 5.30am today. The spokesman said road widening work had not caused the delays.
