A small fire in the roof of Wellington Zoo's cafe may have been caused by a lightning strike.
The Fire Service was called to the zoo after cafe staff discovered the fire at 7.30am today, said communications and marketing manager Charlotte Whitelaw.
The small electrical fire had started in the roof above the Mojo cafe, and may have been caused by a lightning strike during last night's storm, she said.
Power was cut to the cafe as a result, and it was unclear whether it had yet been restored.
There was no impact on other operations at the zoo, which was open this morning as usual.
