Life for fiery murder

Gary Mills has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years for murdering his partner.

The 45-year-old from Ngongotaha near Rotorua was convicted by a jury in the High Court at Rotorua on June 24 of murdering Lyn Delzoppo and arson of the home they shared.

He poured petrol over her legs and bed as she slept before setting her alight in May last year. Ms Delzoppo died 28 days later.
