Teenager Liberty Templeman's alleged killer joined in the search for her when she went missing, according to the social networking site Bebo.
Fifteen-year-old Liberty, known as Libby, was found dead beside Kerikeri's Wairoa Stream last Sunday after disappearing on the way to meet a boyfriend.
A 14-year-old boy appeared in Kaikohe Youth Court on Friday charged with her murder and indecent assault.
Writing on Bebo, one of Libby's friends Connor Brough said: "This makes NO SENSE!!! How CAN IT BE...?!?!?! He was searching with us on Sunday for most of the day!", The Sunday Star Times reported today.
Police have refused to say how Libby died.
They said Libby and the boy were friends and both went to Kerikeri High School but he was not her boyfriend.
More than 1000 people farewelled Libby at a funeral service in Kerikeri yesterday.
Libby was later cremated at a private service in Kerikeri.
The accused boy will reappear in court on November 17.
