Lexus will soon unveil its new convertible tin-top, a two-plus-two model based on the rear-drive IS250 sedan.
The IS250C gets a retractable hardtop roof that opens and shuts in about 20 seconds. The folding mechanism is powered by electric motors.
Two models will be on offer when the IS250C goes on sale here in July. Both will run a 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine, the same powerplant used in the standard sedan.
Lexus says it has strengthened the car's body for increased rigidity. Safety equipment includes side airbags in the seat backs to protect the occupants' heads and abdomens, padding in the doors, as well as driver and passenger front and knee airbags.
IS250C is also equipped with what Lexus calls Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), an electronic package that co-ordinates the stability control, traction control and anti-lock braking systems. It cites fuel economy for the IS250C of 9.3 litres/100km, or 30mpg, and CO2 exhaust emissions rating of 219g/km.
