Police have uncovered a "lethal cocktail" of drugs and firearms during a crackdown on Wellington criminal groups.
Seventeen people were arrested and drugs, cash and firearms were seized after police executed a dozen search warrants this week.
The arrests are part of an ongoing operation to disrupt organised crime and reduce the harm of the illegal drug trade in the region.
Wellington district covert operations head Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson said the discovery of a loaded shotgun and a stun gun in Tawa and Paraparaumu were of "real concern".
"Drugs and firearms are a lethal cocktail and this once again demonstrates the dangers of organised crime within the community. The combination of weapons and drugs pose a significant risk to police and our people."
