A coroner says he hopes the death of a 14-year-old boy after inhaling LPG will be a lesson to other young people.
Nathan Cunningham, of Wainoni, Christchurch, choked on his own vomit after inhaling LPG on October 3 last year.
Christchurch coroner Richard McElrea said yesterday the death was the eighth from solvent abuse heard in the court over the past nine years, The Press reported.
The coroner urged Nathan's peers to take on board the serious lessons of his death.
"He was participating in a very dangerous game," Mr McElrea said .
"I ask that every young person in this room tell their friends about how dangerous it is. Spread the word - don't do it."
The inquest was told Nathan was a Shirley Boys' High School student for a few weeks before switching to an alternative education course through the YMCA.
He attended for a few days before dropping out to spend his time roaming the streets with friends.
