Let it snow! Forecast welcomed by Wanaka ski fields

Snow forecast for later this week will be just the icing on the cake for Wanaka ski fields.

Treble Cone and Cardrona Alpine Resort are not open yet but snow is piling up in readiness.

Cardrona got another 33cm over the weekend, giving it 60cm at the top and 30cm at the base building. It opens on Friday.

While there was no significant snow yesterday, marketing manager Nadia Ellis expected the colder temperatures forecast would produce a layer of lighter snow in the next few days.

Treble Cone, which opens on June 27, received 50cm of fresh snow at the top of the mountain at the weekend and 20-25cm around the base building.

The cross-country Snow Farm in the Pisa Range has a good base and while the official opening day is June 29, a field spokeswoman said that might be reviewed, depending on snowfall over the next few days.

Coronet Peak and the Remarkables had fresh snow on Sunday, leaving the Remarkables with an 80cm base at the top and 50cm on the lower field, and Coronet with a 40cm base at the top and 30cm on the lower mountain.
