A teenager charged after train surfing in Wellington has been made to meet a woman who lost her limbs in a train crash.
The 16-year-old clung for dear life to the back of a Wellington passenger train hurtling along at 80km/h, together with two of his 15-year-old friends, in early March.
This week he appeared in the Hutt Valley Youth Court charged with dishonestly getting on a vehicle - a charge that could result in up to two years in jail.
His friends were not charged.
The teen, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, thought his friends were idiots because they were only holding on with one hand each. He told the Herald on Sunday: "I was like, 'bro don't do that'."
