Legal wrangle delays Wairarapa cases

Several Wairarapa people charged with driving while suspended have had their cases delayed pending a decision by the Court of Appeal.

Cases around New Zealand are on hold while the Court of Appeal rules on the legality of police-issued suspension notices covering a certain time period.

At least six defendants appeared in the Masterton District Court on Friday and were all remanded until July 4.

Judge Peter Butler told one defendant that there were 40 such cases in Lower Hutt alone.

"We're not picking on you."

The defendants had already been remanded until Friday but Judge Butler said the court was "still waiting for a decision from the Court of Appeal".
