The legal highs industry has launched its own code of conduct to try and ensure retailers comply with laws around synthetic products.
The move comes on the same day an undercover operation by Hamilton police discovered a shop illegally selling synthetic cannabis, breaching its interim licence.
The STAR Trust is setting up the Psychoactive Industry Training Association which will offer resources to help retailers stay compliant to new rules.
General manager Grant Hall said any sellers who join the new body must also agree and adhere to an Industry Code of Conduct.
The results of regular audits will be shared with the Ministry of Health to keep the Government up to date and members of the public can ask PITA to investigate if they believe retailers aren't following the rules.
