A decision not to charge the family of murder victim Karl Kuchenbecker legal aid costs for the inquest into his death is a huge relief, says his partner.
The solo mother of two boys whose father was murdered by Graeme Burton in the Hutt hills a year ago had been ordered to repay up to $19,000 in legal aid costs to have the family represented at the inquest.
The Legal Services Agency has decided to write the debt off unless her circumstances change markedly. The woman, who does not want her name used, is raising the boys on a domestic purposes benefit.
