KEY POINTS:
Police have identified a leg and foot washed up on two Christchurch beaches as belonging to the same missing man.
Constable Steven Johnstone said forensic testing showed the foot and leg belonged to the man "we thought [they] belonged to".
There were no suspicious circumstances and police had referred the matter to the coroner.
The man has not been named.
The lower left leg, with a sock and boot, was found on South Shore on February 10.
The foot, in an ankle sock, washed up on Sumner Beach last December.
A pathologist's examination said the foot was probably from a male Caucasian, who wore size eight or nine shoes.
Mr Johnstone said the body parts did not belong to 46-year-old Graham White, who disappeared while trying to swim across Lyttelton Harbour on August 11 last year.
