Autumn's officially here and the leaves are starting to fall, but the country is refusing to let go of the warm weather.
Temperatures in Auckland are expected to reach a high of 24C today, with a chance of rain.
WeatherWatch says there will be a brief respite in the mugginess - humidity levels in Auckland will fall to about 60 per cent for the next few days, but will creep up again by the weekend, possibly towards 80 per cent.
"The 'high-pressure sandwich' means eastern areas will remain mostly dry, despite some rain pushing into the South Island's southern and southwestern corners," a spokesman said.
But by next weekend, the weather will have deteriorated into showers and cool southeasterlies for most of New Zealand.
