KEY POINTS:
Performances were a feature of this year's free 15th Storylines Festival, in the Aotea Centre, Auckland.
"We have 35 different authors, storytellers, illustrators and performers as well as six schools putting on drama or performing stories by authors who are here," said festival manager Crissi Blair.
Creators of favourite stories present included Babette Cole, from Britain, who performed her Princess Smartypants with a group from Laingholm Primary, and Australian author Carole Wilkinson performed Ramose, Prince in Exile, with Auckland Normal Intermediate School pupils.
One of the authors to launch books at the festival was Aucklander Stacy Gregg whose Pony Club Secrets series has sold more than 100,000 copies.
Her fourth novel is Stardust and The Daredevil Ponies. The series will have 12 books. Film rights have been sold for the first three.
More than 20,000 people attended yesterday, a number that Ms Blair said impressed representatives of Team-Up, the Ministry of Education's programme to get parents supporting their children's learning.
Festival day aims to bring together children, books and authors and illustrators.
