An Auckland family have been awarded $147,000 after buying a leaky home in Te Atatu in 2009.
According to the decision of the Weathertight Homes Tribunal last month, Hailing Liu and her husband and son bought the three-storey property in Wakaroa Ave for $710,000. They had noticed hairline cracks but did not seek legal advice.
The tribunal ordered Auckland Council, Andrew Thomas and James Maclean to jointly pay Hailing Liu and Saili Liu and Qianghua Liu the sum of $147,045.
The tribunal determined the Lius were owed $245,000, and this was cut by 40 per cent because of their contribution to the situation.
