KEY POINTS:
Auckland City's $1.4 million payout to a group of apartment owners is being seen as a big win for leaky building victims.
Settlements with victims are usually kept a secret. But court documents revealed the $77,000 paid to each of the owners of the 18-unit complex in Rendall Place, almost enough to fix their apartments.
Ted Armitage of CoveKinloch Consulting said the payment was good for victims.
"It's excellent compared to many other claims," Mr Armitage said. "It won't pay for all the repairs but will almost cover the recladding work."
CoveKinloch prepared the documentation on recladding the units and Mr Armitage said the deal was significant because it was high enough to enable residents to pay most of the bills.
Paul Grimshaw, whose firm acted for the victims, said he could not comment on the case.
