KEY POINTS:
The Aston Martin might be James Bond's favourite choice of wheels, but the best car from which 007 slipped shaken but not stirred was the the Citroen 2CV. That's how fans of the British secret agent and his epic car chases called it for a British TV survey. The 2CV took nearly a quarter of the votes for its role in the 1981 film For Your Eyes Only, with Roger Moore at the helm. The sequence saw Bond abandon his V8-powered Lotus Esprit for a bright yellow 2CV in order to escape hitman Hector Gonzales and his henchmen.
Of course Bond ran rings around the baddies, after jumping over several roads, driving though an apple orchard, and twice rolling the car. The 2CV was fitted with a flat-four-cylinder engine from a Citroen GS for slightly more power. Its starring role led to a limited-edition 2CV in the 1980s, called the "2CV James Bond" with the standard flat-two-cylinder engine, a yellow paint job, 007 on the front doors - and fake bullet holes in the body.
Tied for second after the Citroen was the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger and a Russian T55 tank in Goldeneye. The upcoming Bond film Quantum of Solace mixes the supercar Aston Martin DBS with another modest set of wheels, the new Ford Ka hatchback.
