There's nothing quite like that feeling you get when you're called out for not knowing a common saying.
Hits host Laura McGoldrick got very familiar with that feeling though, detailing her embarrassment in an on-air confession this morning.
"So I went to a bar on the weekend and I sat down and the bar tender goes 'alright ladies, what do ya fancy, let's wet the whistle!' and I go, 'I'm sorry, what? What's that? Who says wet the whistle? Why are we wetting it? Whistles don't work when they are wet?" she said.
"And he is like, 'it's just a saying, love. You've ruined it, what did you want to drink?'"
Lucky for Laura, her co-host Toni Street piped in with a solid explanation of the colloquial term.
