* Civil Defence emergency declarations in place for Manawatu-Wanganui region (Manawatu, Rangitikei, Tararua, Horowhenua, Ruapehu and Wanganui districts); South Taranaki.
* State of emergency for Picton, Marlborough, lifted.
* Key North Island road closures include Manawatu Gorge and parts of State Highways 4, 54 and 56.
* 19 bridges damaged in Manawatu-Wanganui region.
* Estimated evacuations: Manawatu 350; Rangitikei 100 plus more expected; Horowhenua 70 plus more expected; South Taranaki 60-70.
* 20 properties in Hutt Valley and 15 in Picton still uninhabitable.
* Power outages throughout Manawatu-Wanganui region; intermittent landline, cellphone coverage.
* Sewage discharging on to land and into rivers; water supplies and sewerage systems badly affected.
* Hawkes Bay gas line damaged, but supply available to hospitals and domestic users for another 8-9 days.
* Main trunk railway between Auckland and Palmerston North due open Friday afternoon.
