Chrysler has lifted the lid on another version of its hot rod-inspired PT Cruiser, the all-new cabriolet.
The carmaker says the cabrio is aimed at those who want to be different.
The model is priced from $44,900 and comes with features including leather seating, chrome alloy wheels, traction control and a electric soft-top that folds or raises in 10 seconds flat.
The styling retains many of the design elements of the original, five-door PT Cruiser, but the cabrio was designed from the outset as a two-door convertible.
With the hood up, the cabrio has a 62mm-lower roofline than the sedan. Drop the hood and it becomes, says Chrysler, one of the roomiest cabriolets in its class.
It is also one of the quietest on the road, says Chrysler, thanks to the benefits during development of the carmaker's new wind tunnel test facility.
The hood is made from three separate layers of fabric for improved insulation in winter. Door and quarter window glass is 25 per cent thicker than that in the sedan.
The new cabrio model picks up the changes adopted by the rest of the PT Cruiser range for 2006, including new front end and rear stying, and an upgraded interior with all new instrument panel, centre console and improved seating.
The premium sound system, featuring six speakers and a 368-Watt amplifier, is now MP3 capable and there is a power outlet to charge cellphones.
The new interior features the signature Chrysler clock with its white dial and winged badge logo.
Both door-mounted mirrors can be electrically folded to the body when parking in tight spots.
Also adopted is the new low-speed traction control that works in conjunction with the standard ABS anti-lock braking system to avoid wheel-spinning at speeds under 56km/h.
Changes to the suspension system and powertrain have also resulted in less noise being transmitted to the interior of the car.
Under the bonnet is the familiar 2.4-litre, DOHC, 16-valve, engine mated to a five-speed sequential gearbox. Stopping power is provided by four ABS-equipped disc brakes. A new airbag system with side airbags in the front seats is now standard, along with dual anti-intrusion beams in the doors.
