South had the measure of North in the Wairarapa-Bush JAB under-12 rugby matches played over the past couple of weeks but the third and final fixture showed how close the two teams are in quality.
South, playing in Featherston jerseys, found themselves trailing 5-0 going into the final minute of the game but to the delight of players and supporters a last-ditch attack ended with a try to Sam Morison.
Then came the all-important conversion attempt by Sam Smith and he was bang on target to give South a 7-5 victory, their third in as many matches.
South consisted of players from the Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough clubs and North of players from Eketahuna, Gladstone-East Coast, Rams, Pioneer and Marist.
