The last chemical toilet disposal tank will be removed from Christchurch today.
Around 35,000 chemical toilets were distributed after the February 2011 earthquake and 587 disposal tanks installed on the city's streets.
Christchurch City Council's Manager of Water and Waste Mark Richardson said the removal is a milestone in the rebuild.
"Being able to remove memories of approaches we had to put in place following the February earthquake - in that sense it's a great signal of the recovery of the city."
Mr Richardson hoped the new infrastructure will mean Cantabrians never have to dust off their chemical toilets again.
