Fire crews are responding to a large scrub fire measuring 500sqm on a reserve in the Coromandel Peninsula.
The fire is on the headlands near the small coastal town of Hahei and has been seen by locals from Hahei Beach.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said there was a reported drone sighting that may have impacted the helicopters' ability to attend the scene for a short time.
But, a police sweep of the area found no evidence of a drone, the spokesman said.
