A large spill of offal is covering a section of State Highway 1 near Mercer in the Waikato.
A Fire and Emergency northern fire communications spokesman said the spill was covering approximately 50m of the highway just north of Mercer in the northbound lane.
Two trucks were in attendance and a water tanker was on its way to clear the mess.
A police spokesman said police were attendance and a wash down of the road was being prepared.
He said one report was that there was a piece of calf meat in one of the northbound lanes while another caller told police it was a pile of dirt.
