A large number of police officers are to be stood down and could face prosecution, it is being reported.
The details were due to be revealed after 3pm.
It is understood the officers may have been viewing inappropriate material, Newstalk ZB reported.
Meanwhile, the Government has altered the scope of the Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct.
The commission was started last year in response to several historic allegations against police officers, but stalled when criminal charges were laid against some officers.
Attorney General Michael Cullen said today the mandate of the commission had been altered so it could complete its work without prejudicing any criminal prosecutions.
The inquiry's scope would be limited to how police responded to the allegations and whether the people making them were treated appropriately.
The inquiry would run in parallel with investigations by the police commissioner into behaviour by police staff which in some cases may have been criminal.
Dr Cullen said the commission would provide advice to the police commissioner, who would report to it by February 3 next year.
Justice Bruce Robertson would be discharged from the inquiry leaving Dame Margaret Bazley as the sole commissioner.
She would provide a report by March 3, 2006.
Dr Cullen said the terms of the commission of inquiry had been changed because in its previous form it may have stalled for up to two years.
