A large grass fire that broke out south of Auckland and was heading towards native bush has been brought under control.
Fire crews were alerted to a 100m x 100m blaze in the Hunua Ranges at 3pm, Fire and Emergency spokeswoman Lauren Sika said.
Counties Manukau Fire & Emergency said five fire trucks were present and another seven on the way, with two helicopters also being sent out.
“People are asked to stay away from the area to allow fire crews to get to the fireground, and do their work,” Sika said earlier.
