Large fire near Wellington city centre

Firefighters have managed to put out a blaze at a Wellington fish and chip shop.

The fire broke out at Hataitai's Supremo Takeouts store on Moxham Avenue at about 2:30pm.

It took more than an hour for the fire to be extinguished.

Wellington City Council building inspectors have been called in to check the integrity of the building.

Although apartments are located above the store, the fire was isolated to the shop, and no one has suffered any injuries.
