KEY POINTS:
A large fire burning through conservation and farm land on the Chatham Islands is under control but nowhere near out, a Department of Conservation (DoC) spokesman says.
The fire started on Thursday in the 422ha Wharekauri conservation area.
DoC's Ken Hunt said it had burned 200 to 300ha. About 35 firefighters and volunteers were involved in the effort.
