A large fire which closed off the road to the Remarkables ski field has been brought under control.
Gordon Bailey, principal rural fire officer at Queenstown Lakes District Council, said the blaze originated from a controlled permitted burn at a farmer's property about 3km up the Remarkables road at about 3.30pm.
"Rural Fire were called to assist so three helicopters were put on the fire.
"The ski field road was closed for about half an hour while we did some work around the road," he said.
The fire was now under control and the helicopters had been stood down.
