A fire has broken out at an Otara bitumen plant and has yet to be brought under control. Alan Martin who works at VDO Motors at the rear of the fire said at 11.30am he saw the smoke billowing out from the area of the factory. The fire alarms of nearby buildings were set off, he said. "I saw the [bitumen] furnace was chucking the smoke out and I saw smoke coming from all the building vents and flames coming up.
