Flight Centre Lansdowne thrust themselves into early favouritism for this season's Wairarapa Cricket Association Bidwell Cup senior inter-club competition with their convincing innings and 67 run win over Rathkeale College in the match which ended at Rathkeale on Saturday.
Lansdowne put themselves in the box seat after making 254 in their first innings, an effort dominated by the 133 not out by promising youngster Simon Butler, who struck 22 fours and one six.
Equally impressive with the ball for Rathkeale was opening bowler Dion van Deventer who finished with 7-64 from his 20 overs.
The college team's first innings was a disaster with the first three wickets falling before double figures had been reached and only Jamie Holmes (25) looking capable of resisting an accurate Lansdowne attack for any length of time. The innings closed with only 47 runs on the board.
Choi Jackson came on as third change bowler for Lansdowne and took 4-1 from just three overs while Robin James had 3-5 from seven overs and Brock Price 2-11 from six overs.
Asked to follow on Rathkeale did fare better in their second innings but at the same time never looked likely to make Lansdowne bat a second time, being all out for 139. Opener Alec Morrison made 29 as did Harry Greenwood while van Deventer (18) and G.Falloon (14) also got starts.
Five of the six Lansdowne bowlers used on this occasion got amongst the wickets with Dane Buchanan the most successful of them. He took 4-19 from 10 overs. James was again economical in taking 1-27 from 17 overs , Mark Scully took 1-40 from 13 overs, Jackson 2-22 from 10 overs and Price 2-20 from 10 overs.

Greytown scored a first innings win over Wairarapa College in the Bidwell Cup match played on Saturday and yesterday.
Batting first Greytown had Duncan Didsbury (61) to thank for reaching
150. Bowling for Wairarapa College, Paul Bracewell sent down 23 overs and finished with the impressive figures of 5-57.
A Daniel Ingham half-century was the only effort of note in the coll- ege's first innings of 101 with Seth Rance doing the damage for Grey- town, taking 6-25 from 20 overs.
Greytown declared their second innings closed at 123-6, Rance scoring a whirlwind 78 not out , which meant Wairarapa College were left 173 runs to get in 42 overs for the outright win. They were 133-8 at stumps, Brian James taking 2-14 from 10 overs for Greytown.
