Flight Centre Lansdowne holds a narrow lead over Greytown after the first two rounds of matches in the Wairarapa Cricket Association's Bidwell Cup competition.
Lansdowne are sitting on 38pts, followed by Greytown on 35, Rathkeale College on 8, Red Star on 5 and Wairarapa College on 4. Both Wairarapa College and Red Star have had the bye.
Tomorrow's Bidwell Cup games will be played under the one-day format with Lansdowne taking on Wairarapa College and Rathkeale College playing Red Star.
While the form book says Lansdowne should have little difficulty accounting for Wairarapa College, they will need to be wary of the students who have enough talent in their batting and bowling departments to capitalise on any complacency in the Lansdowne camp.
There will be no clear favourite in the Red Star v Rathkeale match with both teams struggling to make any real impact.
Meanwhile Wairarapa under-18 coach Sam Curtis believes he has a squad capable of challenging strongly for the major spoils at their Central Districts regional tournament to be held in Hawke's Bay from December 13 to 16.
Curtis sees strength in depth in both the batting and bowling spheres. The full Wairarapa under-18 team is (training at Wairarapa College at 4.30pm tonight): Matthew Stringfellow, Oliver Burt, Mark Cummings, Ben Foster, Jamie Holmes, Daniel Ingham, Jackson Kibblewhite, Xavier McCluskey, Quentin McKenna, Josh Mann, Gordon Reisima and Martin Reisima.
Also named this week was the Wairarapa under-14 team who will play their Central Districts tourney at Levin from January 24 to 26. Coached by Henry Cameron the side will train at Wairarapa College on Monday at 5.30pm and is: Liam Burling, Lucien Burt, Robbie Crump, Nathan Elliott, Luis Garnett, Brad Griffith, Melissa Hansen, Luke Johnson, Miller Paton, Josh Pepperell, Dylan Price, Donald Reisima.
