Flight Centre Lansdowne made no race of their Umpire's Cup senior men's limited-overs cricket competition grand final with Greytown at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval on Saturday, winning by a massive 159 runs.
It was a dominating performance with bat and ball by Lansdowne who only just a fortnight
before had also beaten
Greytown in the Bidwell Cup two-day final.
It was unfortunate for Greytown on both occasions, however, that they lost the services of outstanding all-rounder Seth Rance at practically the eleventh hour, each time because of a late call-up to the Central Stags State championship side.
Saturday's game saw Lansdowne bat first a rather slow-paced wicket and after they lost James Adamson with the score at 27 Henry Cameron and Gunveer Singh put on 74 runs for the second wicket.
The partnership was a contrast of styles with Singh managing just the two fours in a patient 22 and Cameron being typically aggressive, striking eight fours and one six in his 61 made off 81 balls.
Both Singh and Cameron fell within two runs being scored but any chance of Greytown getting themselves back into the game was stifled when experienced duo Sam Curtis and Robin James came together.
In an unbeaten fifth wicket
stand they produced a valuable 115 runs and took Lansdowne
to a comfortable 255-4 by the
time their 50 overs were complete.
Curtis was a mix of patience and power in a 110-ball knock of 77 which included nine fours and one six while James played the rock at the other end, finding the boundary just three times in his 46, made off 135 balls.
It was a hard day at the office for the Greytown attack but there were economical spells from medium pacer Dean Southey who took 1-33 from his 10 overs and spinner Nash Patel who had 1-30 from his 10 overs.
Greytown's innings basically never got off the ground from the time they lost opener Jake Ross before a run had been scored.
At 69-5 they were very much on the ropes and while Mark Childs played some brilliant attacking shots in his 47, which included seven fours, the knockout punch came with just 96 runs to show for their efforts.
It took Lansdowne's bowlers only 21 overs to complete their demolition act with Dane Buchanan finishing with an impressive 4-19 from his six overs, Brock Price 3-37, Robin James 1-23 and Mark Scully 1-14.
