Mark Langlands produced an outstanding ride when Athletics and Cycling Masterton held a handicap road cycling race over the Gladstone, Millar's Rd and Admiral Hill climb on Tuesday night.
Langlands lapped the entire field to be first across the line and second home, a feat matched by under-23 winner Jack Sowry. Third to finish was Ben Knight with Eddy Kuipers fourth.
The women were led by Lesley Mouat, then Julie Millar and Jenna Mangin and special mention should be made of young Tom McCallum who rode away from his limit group to finish in a very creditable time.
The 10km from the Gladstone intersection to the top of Admiral Hill certainly tested the staying power of the riders but they all managed to finish the course, which also included one 30km lap of the Millar's Road circuit.
