KEY POINTS:
Police have opened one lane of Whangamata Rd, near Whiritoa, after a crash closed it for several hours this morning.
Police said one person was seriously injured when a truck and car collided on the Coromandel Peninsula road about 7.57am.
The injured person was taken by Westpac rescue helicopter to hospital in Auckland in a serious condition.
Traffic flow was expected to be affected until about 1pm while the damaged truck and trailer was removed.
