Heavy rain is thought to have caused another large landslide on a section of path along the Waikato River in Hamilton which is now closed and could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair.
The riverbank boardwalk between London St and Claudelands Bridge in the central city was cordoned off by Hamilton City Council staff on Monday after a deluge at the weekend.
It comes months after a slip 30m north closed a section of the walkway between Bryce St and Claudelands Bridge in July, also after heavy rain.
And three years ago a slip in the same area cost the council more than $700,000 to repair.
Hamilton City Council acting parks and gardens manager Sally Sheedy said that although there was no danger to walkway users, the ground above the latest slip was unstable and closing the path was the only option.
