Lady Kuia completes NY marathon

Sir Howard Morrison's widow has completed the New York Marathon, just a month after his death.

As a novel way to celebrate her 72nd birthday, Lady Kuia Morrison walked the 42.195km through the streets of New York in six hours, 46 minutes and 17 seconds at the weekend, The Dominion Post reported.

She did the walk with a group of friends crossing the finish line in Central Park.

Sir Howard was there in spirit, she said afterwards.

"He was with us all the way. He would have been really proud of me. He always supported me in my goals."

A veteran competitor of the gruelling race, Lady Morrison had already completed five Rotorua marathons.

After the race, she had a bath, put her feet up then met with her friends and went out dancing.
