Their three week break between matches was seen as a probable factor for Dalefield's lack-lustre display in their Wellington premier division women's hockey encounter with Indians at Clareville on Saturday, a match won by Indians 4-2.
"Honestly, we looked like we were half asleep for most of the game, we hardly ever got out of second gear," Dalefield coach Rochelle Retter said.
"Maybe the break was too long for us, that's what it looked like anyway."
At the same time though Retter paid tribute to Indians, who she said looked a slicker combination than they were when they beat a makeshift Dalefield 2-1 earlier in the season. "They were a lot more consistent this time, they seem a pretty handy unit now," she said..
Goalkeeper Sara Crofoot was one of the better Dalefield players, coming through a busy game with credit, while Alice Davies was solid on defence and Charlotte Meo and Tara Hall the pick of the attack. Goal scorers were Jodi Graham and Tara Hall.
The Dalefield men were also on the end of a decent beating by Indians in their Wellington premier division match at Clareville although the 8-2 loss was an improved result from the 12-0 defeat suffered when the two teams met in the opening series of competition games.
Lacklustre display does for Dalefield
