Wanganui firefighters had to run a long feeder hose to get water to put out a shed fire, thought to be arson, last night.
A Fire Service spokesman said the lack of a reticulated water suppy had caused problems for the more than 20 firefighters and five appliances at the Mosston Rd fire.
The alarm was raised about 10.30pm.
When fire fighters arrived at the semi-rural address they found the shed well ablaze. The building eventually collapsed and the fire was brought under control after an hour.
The spokesman said he understood the 30m by 20m shed contained vehicles.
No one was hurt in the fire and no other buildings were threatened.
An investigation by police and fire safety investigators was under way, and a Wanganui police spokesman said the fire was thought to be arson.
