A LACK of finish cost Wairarapa better than a 1-1 draw when they met Mid-Canterbury in their opening match at the national under-18 girls hockey tournament in Whangarei on Monday.
Wairarapa manager Ana-May Playle said her team created a number of good scoring opportunities through the course of the match but apart from a goal by Kelly Brown just couldn't get the ball into the back of the opposition net.
"We had enough chances to win by least three or four goals but we couldn't finish things off," Playle said.
While Wairarapa did dominate in both territory and possession Mid-Canterbury also tested their defence at times and goalkeeper Sara Crofoot made some fine saves.
