Lack of entries caused the cancellation of the Wairarapa senior closed tennis championships last weekend.
The tournament was to be held at the Masterton Tennis Centre but with only a handful of players turning up there was little alternative but to call it off.
Plans now are for a similar event for regional one players to be held early in the New Year while the regional two titles will probably be decided on the basis of results at club level.
The district's junior talent will have the chance to strut their stuff this Sunday when the Wairarapa under-10, under-12 and under-14 teams will meet their counterparts from Wanganui at the Masterton Tennis Centre.
On the interclub scene matches in the regional one series will continue tomorrow with the highlight being the clash between the second and third teams on the points table, Opaki and Martinborough
The last time these two teams met Martinborough sneaked in 5-4 and another close scoreline seems assured here. The fact they have the home advantage will be to Martinborough's benefit but Opaki , whose number one man Russell Broughton is unbeaten in singles play this season, could have the greater depth.
Competition leaders Pirinoa will be looking to further enhance their position by making a clean sweep over Gladstone at Gladstone and if rumours that Steve Hurley has at last fully recovered from his arm injury suffered in a "friendly" rugby game are true then Masterton could have the edge on Carterton at Masterton.
Lack of entries stops champs
