A coach is desperately being sought for the Wairarapa United seconds football team which contests the Capital third division competition.
But so far all efforts to fill the vacancy have been in vain, much to the chagrin of club president Phil Keinzley who is at a loss to understand why someone in the local football community hasn't made themselves available to take up the role.
"They've gone a few weeks now without a coach and that's just not on," said Keinzley.
"Right now it's a complete shambles, an absolute nightmare."
Making the situation even more frustrating for Keinzley is that a "crisis meeting" he called earlier in the season to shore up playing numbers for the seconds team attracted an excellent response from all other clubs, so much so that player availability is no longer a problem.
In fact, with regular coaching Keinzley is adamant they are a side capable of making a decent impact in the third division series, rather than languishing at the bottom of the points table and staring relegation in the face.
"It's the sort of team most people would love to coach, they already have good skills and are keen to learn," he said.
"But the way things are they don't even get to train, they basically just turn up and play."
Keinzley said the whole concept of Wairarapa United was being jeopardised by the seconds scenario as they were the feeder team for the club's Central League squad and without them the latter's future would also come under the microscope.
"You wonder how long we could support a Central League side without a meaningful seconds team, probably not very long at all," he said.
"One goes hand in hand with the other, that's the way it has to be."
Keinzley admits the hassles with the seconds team has overshadowed the huge improvement made by the central league side, which he himself coaches, in recent times, culminating in the commanding 5-1 win over Taranaki in New Plymouth on Sunday.
"As a club we need both sides operating well and that's not happening," he said.
"Hopefully things will improve once people read this & otherwise I'm not sure where we can go."
Lack of coach a 'complete shambles', says Keinzley
